TOUR THE SEAQUELL

Port of Cannes, Southern France - French Riviera -August 5, 1997

Cannes, French Riviera

Position: Port of Cannes, Southern France - French Riviera- August 5, 1997

The weather has been ideal, the water is clean and crystal clear almost like the Caribbean but no coral or underwater growth. There are neat rock formations near the shore. The winds are calm in the morning and come up to 15 to 20 knots for nice sailing in the afternoon. The shorelines are rocky and steep with higher mountains within one or two miles.

The Pfaelzer's left for Chicago on July 27 and Bobbie Mitchell is still with us. We have spent 5 days in St. Tropez shopping and shopping, wine tasting, exploring the region down the coast to Marseilles and reprovisioning. St. Tropez was very exciting to visit and explore the historical parts of the city. There is a lot of contrast between the old and new. Alice returned to the boat on July 31.

Our guests for the week are Dick and Diane Kuehn from Carden Beach and Milwaukee, arriving August 3rd. The Kuehns are cruising the Riviera with us and hoping to find good weather and good sailing. Today we sailed SeaQuell in various wind conditions starting with 3 knots of wind and after 6 hours we sailed into our anchorage with 20 knots of wind. We sailed with our MPS in the light wind and as the wind increased we set the staysail and the main for ease of tacking in the higher winds. We have not used the engines for the last two days of cruising from anchorage to anchorage.

We enjoy having guests to cruise with us and share our experiences. Cruising the Riviera with SeaQuell lets us see the well developed coastline from the sea and still have the privacy of space at anchorages each night in a select cove or directly off the beach in the center of town.
