TOUR THE SEAQUELL

The Crossing -December 10, 1997

The Crossing

Position: The Crossing -December 10, 1997

John and Todd had to leave SeaQuell on Nov. 11th while the crew waited for a weather window from our haven in Ibiza, Spain. Three additional sailing crew were added to the crew of 3 for the crossing: Sky Earl, Dan Terry, and Allen Schwarzer.

Nov. 12th - Departed Ibiza for Gibraltar with near gale conditions that calmed nearing the Gib.

Nov. 15th - Departed Gibraltar after provisioning with calm seas and very little wind now that easterly winds were needed to move the boat home. Three days of motoring to the Canary Islands and a brief stop.

Nov. 18th - Canary Islands for provisioning stop and then departed in calm winds that would not move the boat so most of the crossing was motoring. About 1500 miles east of Antigua the winds produced some sailing with squalls and variable winds that involved considerable sail setting. For two day the winds were favorable for spinnaker but not strong enough for a good push. Only major event was having to remove a fishnet from the starboard prop.

Nov. 28th - Arrived in Antigua with a great relief for the crew to get back into a port after 10 days from the Canaries. Since leaving St. Croix on May 11, 1997, SeaQuell has traveled 16,500 nautical miles - giving us many new and unforgettable experiences in our new way of life.

December Crew Change - After more than a year on board, Richard and Carol Archer are taking a 2 month holiday and will return to SeaQuell for the refitting in February. Our new crew departing Antigua are: Sky Earl, Captain; Allen Schwarzer, 1st Mate and Engineer, Andrea Alix, our renowned Chef; and Lucy Bauer, Stewardess.

Dec. 6th - Falmouth Harbor, Antigua to St. Martin, FWI Dec. 7th - St. Martin to St. Croix

Dec. 27th - SeaQuell welcomes first-time guests Kaitlyn and Keegan Hooper.

SeaQuell will home port in St. Croix until moving to Ft. Lauderdale for a Feb. 1st refit in preparation for the Pacific voyage.
