West Coast -Aug. 25, 1998

Position:
West Coast -Aug. 25, 1998
We have just completed our tour of the British Columbia area with
the Campbell family - Tamie, Bob, Ryan, Jack and Reed. June's Mother,
Grandma Doc, also joined us in Vancouver. She enjoys the time spent
on SeaQuell with our families and at 91 has become a real fan of the
sea.
SeaQuell arrived in Vancouver early August from Ft. Lauderdale. The
crew consists of the Archers-Carol and Captain Richard, Chef Sofia Plowright
from England and Stewardess Patricia Bacon from Providence, RI. We arrived
on Aug. 12 from Mpls and the Campbells arrived on Aug. 13 with Grandma
Doc. It was great to be back and to have everything in SHIP shape. After
spending some time exploring Vancouver's Aquarium park and enjoying
the beauty of the clean city, Aug. 15 we sailed north out of Vancouver
to Desolation Sound. We found beautiful scenery in the mountains and
fjords with great anchorages, sometimes tied to trees. The sea was full
of life with otters, seals, sea lion dolphins, and whales-both humpback
and orcas. We were fortunate to be in the area at the right time of
the year for ideal temperature and no rain. The water was Canadian warm.
It was Caribbean cold. We did plenty of kayaking, hiking, some fishing
and even found some warmer bays for swimming. We put out pots for crab
and shrimp, but did not find them as plentiful or as large as in Alaska,
however, just as much fun to do. The last few days we spent in Victoria.
It's a beautiful tourist oriented city with outstanding flower gardens,
parks, museums, and much to do. It is very Canadian. Outstanding was
our evening at Bouchards Gardens complete with a double decker bus tour
and orchestrated fireworks designed with dancing kettledrums and saxophones.
Awesome!!!
On Aug 25 the Campbells and Grandma Doc departed to Mpls. John and June
departed to Big Sky, Montana where John's Blue Sky investment club held
its annual meeting. As guests of Jack and Debbie Crowther, we enjoyed
the grandeur of the mountains, golf, horseback riding, elegant stream
side dining, a Yellowstone park guided tour including lunch with the
elk, plus camaraderie of long-time friends. We returned to Mpls on Aug.
30. The crew sailed SeaQuell to San Francisco and we will meet them
on Sept. 12 in Sausalito, Ca.
End of Log for August.
