INTRODUCTION:
This is a
copy of the logs for the "Five year around the world cruise"
made by June and John Klindworth. The logs are not complete but a collection
of these that were available.
This trip was planned
for several years and finally started upon realizing that we had to
purse this venture while we were still in good health or it would not
be made. We looked at many sailboats, talked with brokers, various crew
with ocean experience, and chose a boat that has sufficient size for
comfort with guest and able to sail in moderate seas. Cruising guides
were studied, crews were interviewed, and boat owners were talked to
for any experience that we could learn.
In all of our planning
we really depended upon the experience of the crew to lead us into this
venture. They were the ones the insurance looked to for their security.
The crews were the ones to keep the boat operating, have knowledge of
the seas, and provide us with the confidence and security to make our
trip a success. The crew helped select the boat, planned routes and
from their previous experience put us into the best harbors for our
comfort and enjoyment. We never had a specific schedule and traveled
to areas we felt were of interest. We enjoyed having our family and
guests meet us throughout our cruise.
Not having any ocean
sailing experience our dependent on the crew was most important part
of the journey. We were fortunate to find Richard and Carol Archer whose
extensive ocean sailing e experience lead us into our venture. They
gave us the direction needed to develop a plan for a world cruise.
After updating Seaquell,
to the satisfaction of the Captain Richard Arche, we were ready to depart
Florida by sailing to St. Croix. The following pages are notes put together
while we traveled.
